Designer: Christopher John Rogers

Designer: Christopher John Rogers

Though he just launched his namesake label a few years ago, you could probably already recognize some of Christopher John Roger’s work, like his bold silhouette black and purple color-block dress worn by Zendaya at the 2020 Emmy Awards. This New York based label is committed to creating ‘emotional and sensitive clothing.’ The beautiful quality of Roger’s designs can be seen in the fabric choices and tailoring. From the loud prints, to the bright colors and striking silhouettes, his clothes are made for women who are confident and not afraid to stand out.

He also recently dressed our new, first Black and first female vice president, Kamala Harris, in a beautiful monochrome purple ensemble for the inauguration ceremony. The color choice, among other reasons, chosen at is a blend of blue and red, the colors of the Democratic and Republican parties.

Designer: Rihanna for Fenty x Puma

Designer: Rihanna for Fenty x Puma

In one of her first roles on the creative direction side, Rihanna's collaboration with Puma, titled Fenty x Puma, was born toward the end of 2014. One of four ready-to-wear collections she would come to design with the brand, Fenty x Puma's Spring 2017 collection presented at Paris Fashion Week in the fall of 2016. Between the pastel color palette, lace-up corsets, and dreamy silk textures, it was the perfect blend of vintage and classic, "Marie Antoinette-esque" details with edgy street-style energy. This particular look featured in the below illustration, a silk slip worn draped over a hoodie and bike shorts, is just one iteration of this combo. Rococo style opulence meshed with casual athleisure. Through this collection, Rihanna successfully brings a modern, urban perspective to historically European aesthetics.

Model: Adut Akech

Model: Adut Akech

We at Jurnfern Art love Adut Akech and everything this powerful Black model stands for! South Sudanese-Australian model Adut Akech made her runway debut for Saint Laurent in 2016 and went on to close both their F/W 17 and S/S 18 shows as an exclusive. Since then, her career has blown up to supermodel status, and she has used her platform to speak on important issues close to her heart like worldwide refugee support. We have taken her power and beauty and incorporated it into an exclusive line of prints, cell phone covers, notebooks, and more.
Model: Akiima Ajak

Model: Akiima Ajak

South Sudanese born model Akiima Ajak made her runway debut with Schiaparelli in 2017 and has continued to walk for countless notable clients and pose for several major magazine editorials since. Akiima is an eye-catching, graceful beauty who helped inspire a series of Jurnfern Art prints, phone cases, and more.
Model: Alexis Ruby

Model: Alexis Ruby

Alexis Ruby wasn’t seeking modeling- it found her; after photos were posted online by some of her photographer friends, Ruby signed with IMG Models within months. Her runway debut came at the Marc Jacobs Spring 2020 show in September of 2019. Alexis exudes such a bright confidence that only enhances her incredibly unique features from her mixed race complexion (she is Irish and Black) to her fierce curls and her curvy figure. She takes pride in knowing she is contributing to a change of the typical ‘fashion model image.’ So, it is no question why we had to include her in our Rising Black and African Models illustration series with the below prints, canvas, and more which she inspired.
Model: Amar Akway

Model: Amar Akway

Ethiopian beauty Amar Akway made her international modeling debut on the Lanvin Spring/Summer 2020 runway. Soon after, she would walk for several more luxury brands including Givenchy, Valentino, and Schiaparelli. Akway left such an impression that she was even included on Model.com’s list of top newcomers for the SS20 season. Before she was gracing runways and Vogue covers, as a young teenage Amar Akway was a competitive runner and was a member of the national Ethiopian athletic team. As a new member of the industry, she acknowledges the responsibility that comes with representing diverse Black beauty as well as her East African culture. A well-rounded Black beauty - Amar Akway inspired the below collection of prints, notebooks, and more!
Model: Damaris Goddrie

Model: Damaris Goddrie

Damaris Goddrie was repeatedly sought out by modeling agencies before she finally entered the industry and made her modeling debut with J.W. Anderson for their pre-fall 15 lookbook and fall/winter 15 show. Aside from modeling, she loves reading, writing, and painting! Explore the below prints, canvases, phone cases, and more inspired by this beauty.
Model: Diana Ross

Model: Diana Ross

Diana Ross is a legendary multitalented singer and actress. In addition to her flourishing career of being a performer, Diana Ross has also been deemed a style icon. Ross's looks dating all the way back to the 70's still serve as inspiration to fashion girlies today. Along with her record-breaking albums, Ross's fashion choices will live on forever - especially the iconic cowgirl outfit, complete with floor-length fringe and a larger than life hat, illustrated in this series.
Model: Imani Randolph

Model: Imani Randolph

In addition to modeling, Imani Randolph writes (she was previously a contributor for ManRepeller) and does freelance work for fashion brand Ganni. She not only represents Black beauty but also proudly represents body diversity. Remaining critical of brands which seem to exploit body diversity for their image, Randolph feels that progress only comes in part when standards of measurement themselves are challenged. This is why we were inspired to create the Imani Randolph Leopard Bikini collection of prints, phone cases, and more!

Model: Janaye Furman

Model: Janaye Furman

We at Jurnfern Art are inspired by Janaye Furman, who made history as the first Black woman to ever open for a Louis Vuitton show. Furman is a model who is breaking barriers and building a successful career that shows no signs of slowing down. If you love Janaye as much as we do, check out these prints, phone cases, and custom notebooks!
Model: Shanelle Nyasiase

Model: Shanelle Nyasiase

Since making her runway debut in 2017, Shanelle Nyasiase has continued to walk for a countless number of major clients and collaborate on numerous magazine editorials and brand campaigns. Shanelle is an eye-catchingly fierce beauty who inspired the below collection of fashion illustration prints, framed canvases, phone cases, and more!
Model: Storm Reid

Model: Storm Reid

Who doesn't love Storm!? Storm Reid has such a strong presence in the clothing she wears, which inspired me to create a four part digital series available on framed canvases, custom journals, and more. Though most know her first for her acting, Storm has become known just as much for her style. She has fronted some amazing fashion campaigns and even made her runway debut with Miu Miu. Storm has said that she sees her clothing as an expression of her beliefs and values and recognizes that in her position as a role model to other young girls, her clothing is yet one of the many things that influences her followers, so she is very conscious of the people and brands that she collaborates with and of the messages she is spreading.

The Black Beauty Collection

The Black Beauty Collection

The Black Beauty Collection is Jurnfern Art’s new staple collection which will be released continually over periodic drops. The Black Beauty Collection was designed to be a bold representation of our mission – celebrating Black beauty and talent in the fashion industry through art, and now wearable art as well! This collection will allow you to celebrate yourselves along with the many Black fashion icons. The representation of Black models, designers, photographers, stylists, etc. in the fashion industry throughout history is invaluable! Fashion is a field heavily based in beauty and aesthetics, so it is of course important that it presents a diverse and inclusive, rather than discriminatory, image to the world. But, despite our countless contributions behind the scenes, Black people have historically been excluded from the industry’s definitions of ‘fashionable’ and ‘beautiful.’ There have been incredible changes to this in the last decade, however it is hard to forget even as an adult in this ‘new era,’ what it was like growing up and loving fashion, but feeling like I didn’t belong. Blackness became something that I was not proud of and wanted to hide in any way possible. No one should ever have to feel like they need to hide who they are. The Black Beauty Collection is the opposite of hiding! The Black Beauty Collection allows you to say to the world, loud and proud, that you love who you are and will not change for anybody! The collection also allows fashion lovers from all different backgrounds to celebrate the Black beauties and talents making major waves and breaking down barriers in the industry.

This collection was designed with a range of products that allows anyone and everyone to celebrate Black Beauty, and is in no way designed to be exclusive. We celebrate Black beauty while also acknowledging and recognizing the immense contributions to the fashion industry by people all over the world!

The Feeling Blue... Collection

The Feeling Blue... Collection

The Feeling Blue... Collection is defined by its unique moody, dark, sensual, and bluesy aesthetic, and includes the second installment of the Storm Reid digital illustration series

The Juneteenth Collection

The Juneteenth Collection

In honor of the Juneteenth 2022 holiday, we've created a special new print!

You might be familiar with a very famous painting titled American Gothic, featuring a rural couple standing in front of a gothic style home. The meaning of the American Gothic painting has been interpreted in part to evoke a sense of Americana.

This year, to celebrate the Juneteenth holiday, we put a spin on the classic American Gothic painting. Our interpretation shows a Black couple still standing in front of the traditional gothic style home, but this time, dressed in 'rural' high fashion straight off the Gucci runway. Titled, A Black Americana, this illustration offers an alternative perspective on what true Americana can look like.

The Rising Black and African Models Series

The Rising Black and African Models Series

I decided to do a Rising Black and African Models Series to really showcase some women who are just beginning their careers and carving out their space in the industry. Maintaining Black representation in fashion is so important, as our beauty, bodies, and stories are worthy of being displayed too. Each new Black face emerging in the industry contributes to diversifying our representation to the public. These prints, phone cases, journals, and more aim to highlight three of such faces (including Amar Akway, Imani Randolph, and Alexis Ruby) emanating varied qualities of Black beauty in their work in fashion.

The Storm Reid Digital Series

The Storm Reid Digital Series

Who doesn't love Storm!? Storm Reid has such a strong presence in the clothing she wears, which inspired me to create a four part digital illustration series available on framed canvases, custom journals, and more.

The Valentino Spring '19 Couture Series

The Valentino Spring '19 Couture Series

The Valentino Spring 2019 couture show reimagined couture as something which is no longer meant for only one group of people. It suggested that the classic tradition of imaginative garments can in fact be interpreted in today's world. Not just by tweaking designs, but by retelling the narrative of who is worthy. This seemingly obvious yet groundbreaking sentiment created a communal sense of emotion among the audience, as many even left in tears. For the Black models who walked in the show, it was described as an unforgettable experience and they were humbled to have been a part of such a historical moment.

Explore the below series of products including framed canvas prints, custom journals, and more inspired by this monumental collection.
